Ours

Midnight marathons while I lay my head on your chest
Until you start snoring but then you wake and tell me you were just blinking at best
Your arm draped around my body and your hand at my hip
Your head when it turns and asks me for a kiss
Each meal that we cook in partnership
You cook the pattys & I’ll do the buns
Your requests for my Mac and cheese which you tell me is #1
The rumbling of the tornados that the kittens brew with their paws each morning
The hello that your voice carries as you hop in the seat of the car
Knowing you’re finally off work and home with me isn’t too far
The magic in your eyes when I crack a well timed joke
The conversations that dance around the drafts of blunt smoke
The days keep coming but I’m still so grateful, like we are new to this
This bond is built like an iron fist
