Mulberry Tree

We'd gather under the Mulberry Tree
Neighbourhood kids, time was free
Tear down the back lane, bikes at full pelt
Biggest skid won, skinned knees were felt

Hours were spent at the local town dam
Crawled into tight spaces, kid traffic jam
Blackberries were picked, avoided the thorning
Ignoring the background voice of Mum's warning

As the sun set, day came to an end
We'd meet at the Mulberry Tree, our dear friend
Climb into the branches, her fruit we would eat
Head home with mulberry juice stained to our feet

Today we are scattered into the breeze
Adults now, with families
Left with the memories, photos to see
Of us all together, under the Mulberry Tree
