THE DAWNING SUN

I think of you my darling,
As the dawning sun appears,
I think of you dear starling
While the earth absorbs my tears,

The sun burns hot at midday,
Sweet thoughts of you persist,
My tears continue flowing,
Your image, blurred in mist,

As the sun sets I'm aware,
You're no longer here with me,
Heaven knows my deep despair,
Knows I need your company,

Comes midnight, how I dread it so,
As the darkness shuts my eyes,
Alone I cry myself to sleep,
Till the dawning sun will rise.
