Dandelions

Michaela Moore 2007 (California)

Dandelions

From the ground you grew
Towards the sun, with so much in your way
The world seemed to be against you, but still you grew
The winds tried to blow your delicate petals away, but many still remained
The dandelion dreams that carry on the wind begin to look more foolish
But still you don’t give in

But now your petals have all blown away
Each petal you had became a wish
But now you’re pouring from an empty cup
You have no more to give
Your petals are gone, you’re not but a stem
Swaying cold and lifeless in the breeze

But your petals were not useless, they brought new life along
From each petal you gave, a new dandelion grew
You live on through what you gave
You live on through what grew from you
