counting

10

times i told you that i loved you with all my heart

barely reciprocated

suggesting the way we fell apart

9

lives i had to live with you

never truly understanding

the relief

i would get

if i flew

8

ways you pulled me back into your lies

until i seemed to realize

the

7

different ways you could deceive me

as if by seeking attention

somehow you could hope to be me

6

parts of my heart

you would hope to break

this

i secretly wished

for you to see as a mistake

5

chances now that you tried to redeem

yourself

from your acute lack of loyalty

4

reasons now i understand

how you had hoped to be a better man

3

chances you missed to be it too

as there was

 2

of us, just me and you

once you had gotten out of view

it was when i could finally see

my wings

no longer clipped

1

is finally free.

About this poem

I wrote this poem as a representation of what I imagine heartbreak in the anger stage of grief would be like.

Clara Hoyles

I grew up in a suburban area, I loved spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy running as well as writing poetry. I found that poetry allows me to escape my stresses in life to put all that I'm feeling- down on paper. more…
