Floyd Hits Lodi

Floyd was coming and no one knew,
It soon would split the town in two.
When the river began to rise,
Several people lost their lives.

Many homes we're destroyed.
All this damage caused by Floyd.
Many people in horror groaned,
At the loss of things they owned.

Looking to see the damage done,
All so glad to see the sun.
Terrible stenches still remain,
Making people feel the pain.

Cleaning up will take time.
Together we will make Lodi shine.
Everyone will help each other,
This sad memory we will smother.

About this poem

In 1999 Hurricane Floyd hit Lodi New Jersey where I lived at the time. That storm over flowed the Passaic river and split the town of Lodi in two. It flooded the boys and girls club and most of main street from one end of town to the other....many businesses and homes, park and store fronts were flooded horribIy. I remember the reserves driving down the streets in big huge trucks used to pump the water out of the worst flooded areas and begin the clean up process that took months atleast to complete. ...I'll never forget watching all the footage on TV and see all the devastation...I wrote this poem for my highschool newspaper.
