Was I waiting at the light

Audrey James 1955 (Los Angeles)

I thought I saw you again last night
I dreamed about all the nights
The way we used to say goodnight
The way we used to kiss and hold another tight
Nothing else
Ever felt so right
Then one day
our love
Went on strike
Dark was the night
I kept waiting for the light
But nothing felt right
I longed for your arms at night
But your love
Was kept out of sight
And to another
You took flight
And in tears
Went the night
You and my dreams
Out of sight
As you danced into the arms
Of a flaxen sprite
You took a new delight
And that ain't right
What can I do
To make this right
I know if we speak
We might just fight
I saw you by the light
Please don't make my heart bright
Don't make me try and make this right
Let's let this go by our own might
And not remember the night
 Let's forget everything
And not make it right
Let's just say goodbye
