Humanity

Some days I’m frozen
My heart its broken for them
Her legs are cold as she bares herself
He pulls up, she gets in.
Started when she was 12 years old
She’s pushing 40.
In and out of jail.
Addicted to it all just to keep her going.
She gave birth to 3 beautiful children
But they’re all growing up in the system
No fathers stepped in.
She’ll take the shame.
Inside she wants to be normal-
But her daddy used to beat and touch her.
Ran away from home.
Little support available when you see the bigger picture.
Pump them in and out of the system
And expect them to get better.
They have more functional systems in place for paving roads.
Than helping these victims.
Mental health has many capes with many colors
If they’re broken bad enough
Chances are they’ve screamed for help
More than likely nobody is listening
Let’s find away to listen.
No little boy or girl - Man or Woman -should ever sell themselves to survive.
But if they do , why in the hell would they be jailed or judged.
Not every circumstance sings the same song.
We just don’t listen.
Asking for help doesn’t always sound like H-E-L-P
We just don’t listen.

About this poem

The amount of underage youth and runaways that end up on the streets is an ongoing issue.
