Standing in Awe

Dr. Marilyn Bess Field 1959 (Baltimore)

Driving West with the complaints of the day...
To curse and pity ourselves is all we say

The world wakes up-- when a little bird sings,
and I get pissed when the alarm clock rings

A baby bird hatched from her shell
...of course she got up and then she fell...
She didn't think that would send her to hell

That fire in the sky
The big yellow ball
Does anyone realize what we are witnessing

---at all?

About this poem

Albert Einstein said "He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed." Poetry at it's finest, but was only a statement.
