For a friend

I cannot paint a masterpiece
Nor carve a precious stone
I cannot write a great novel
Nor compose an immoral song

I cannot fly the highest skies
To reach the brightest stars
But I can surely share with you
My hopes and my desires

I cannot give you something grand
Nor buy you a precious gem
But I can give you all my heart
My friendship all the same

About this poem

I wrote this poem in 1986 for my college friends before graduation. I entered this same poem here in poetry.com in the early 2000 but I cannot find it anymore. It originally has 4 stanzas.
