Both Ways To Have It

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Both ways to have it headed towards havoc.
As blame to claim remains unchanged.
While no one is expected to express,
A confession of embarrassment or shame.
Nor a regret to have had it.
Permitted to cross,
The wrongs of a doing...
On the same followed path.

Being held accountable,
With this verbally to acknowledge.
For thoughtless actions taken to create...
Massive confusion?
Only the ones,
Daring themselves to be consciously awake...
Have vocally stated they do not appreciate,
A being involved in such pointless situations.

Since speaking up these days,
Most regard as threats.
Against a patriotism to disrespect.
By the very ones who refuse to accept,
Their decisions to make and take...
Directions that promises to eliminate,
Both their physical and mental well-being.
Causing a way of life with wishes to protect.
Resulting to observe and witness,
An adverse effect inviting neglect.
As if this doing done,
Is intentionally meant...
A serving of ignorance welcomed to commit.
Without common sense to use that first!
Instead of minds focused on a power.
To appetize and crave for it.
With an ongoing unquenchable thirst.

On both sides wanting it both ways.
Complaints are heard.
Heating up arguments.
And breaking down fragile nerves.
Along with once close relationships.
Disbelieving,
Both ways to have it...
Has nothing to do,
With producing to create...
Their own upheaval and havoc.

Although no one will admit,
An ownership of this wished.
And wanted.
To appease their stubborn thoughts.
Especially if one side,
Determined to have it both ways...
Is not given full credit,
For the mess together both have made.

'What is this childish nonsense all about?

'Ego. Narcissism. Self importance and pride!'

'And yet...
Humanity?
And what had been a quality of it.
Will surely on both sides die.
Of an envious life to live it blessed.
Standing by to watch it purposely slide.
Into a non-existence.
Fed to feed a permanent darkened abyss.

Quicker than climate change,
Has begun to melt icebergs!
Flooding away a greatness.
Leaving nothing not even ignorance left.
Proving stupidity,
Is more endorsed to support...
Than anytime before without documentation.'

'Death to ignorance,
Apparently isn't on anyone's agenda...yet!
Well...
Accept for those repeatedly told,
Gold is not theirs to be found.
Searching for it in the middle of quicksand!'

'Huh?
Quicksand?'

'Yeah.
You know how folks can be.
Killing themselves over rumors to believe.
Then later to be added to the list,
Of those among the missing.
Out to seek wealth, power and control.
With adolescent visions to be honored,
For their bravery and bold attempts...
To defy death.
Even in the midst of its certainty.'

'Who would do such foolishness?
And to themselves and everyone prove,
This dignifies a kept stupidity.
Who would allow and permit,
Such ignorance?'

'I once had a teacher repeatedly say,
Ignoring what is being taught...
To constantly look out of a window.
Will not prevent,
A thick head to pay attention.
Even if hit,
With a brick made from solid cement.'

'And...
What did this do to prove?'

'Well...
Back in those days,
When teachers were devoted...
To have their lessons taught?
We all knew,
And personally...
How serious our teachers were.
And also where the nurse office was.
This was long before calling 9-1-1.
To report teachers who threatened violence.'
