Sybil Ludington

77 is a dangerous time
16 yr. old Sybil is in her prime
In New York on their farm
The British want to cause harm

Mr. Crosby knocks on the door
Sybil sprints across the floor
Guarding her sibling chums
From all possible British bums

Mr. Prosser and his British bums
Arrive on horseback at the farm
Sybil and her siblings pace back and forth
Tricking Mr. Prosser and his men to go up north

There’s a pounding on the door, the messenger appears
Spreading word that Danbury will be attacked by musketeers
Sybil must muster the militia to protect the supplies
The messenger thinks the Colonel has sent her to her demise

The drizzle at night when Sybil rides through
Banging shutters door to door so she could pursue
Sybil falls in the mud obscuring her view
Mrs. Shaw brings her in, but Sybil withdrew

Sybil trudges down the road
She was then slowed by cowboys
As she brandished her stick they backed down to the ground
Sybil continued her ride in a rebound

Early in the morning Sybil returns home
She sees the 400 men she mustered beginning to roam
The cheers for Sybil could be heard far and wide
Her dad stood beside her with much pride

General Washington approaches Sybil
He congratulates her on that spring hill
As his army of men stand solemnly behind
They praise her on history’s new stride
