Quarantined

I can talk to you on the telephone,
Via the computer screen, you see.
I know I can be sitting here alone,
Pretending you are here next to me.

If I meet you at the grocery store,
I can see your eyes filled with grace.
I wish that I could of you, see more,
And rejoice with your beautiful face.

Sometimes I wonder if it is you.
“Is it you, behind that face mask?”
You probably wonder, if it is me too,
When we cross each other, afraid to ask.

We will hug each other, just you and me,
When this is over, and your face I see.
We will leave behind what could not be,
From quarantine, God will set us free.

About this poem

It is a poem addressing the last couple of years pandemic, and the requirement of using a mask. How we talk to friends and recognize them.
