ASSART OF THE FOREST
ASSART OF THE FOREST
Who is defying the counsel of wisdom
and levelling the trees
Making it difficult for us to breath.
Who is that one
uncovering the shades of green.
A covering, spread out to the heavens like a canopy.
Who is that human
removing our statue trees
without leaving even a tiny seed.
Who is slipping behind our backs
to connive with the sun on how to annihilate the wild
and puncture animal’s hide.
Has no one seen how the divide of the green leaves
Has thrown us to the jaws of every harmful thing.
Do they not know that the green trinket covering us from above
Is more than a metaphor for protection.
As the first pine is hacked into pieces
I see the existence of man being cut into tiny slices
As the sun glows closer to our roofs
The muscular adornment of diamonds melts in dismay.
How long will we say
The earth is no more conducive for our stay.
You see,
If we destroy this crust
We would destroy mars too
And every other thing
we lay our destructive hands upon.
About this poem
Assart of the Forest is a poem written to reprimand those who cut down trees and destroy nature and wildlife. Many are of the opinion that the earth is no more conducive for our stay, this poem takes a different angle to say the earth is not the problem, rather it is the destructive hands of humankind.
