10 feet tall

When I was young, I knew it all,
I lived like I was 10 feet tall,
No one could ever tell me how,
If I knew then what I know now,
I'd shut my mouth and use my ears,
Instead, I wasted many years,
When your young, what you don't know,
Is just how fast your life will go.
And then one day you're looking back,
You wonder how you got off track,
You shared your heartbeat with 3 kids,
They now resent the wrong you did.
I now live like I'm 5 feet tall,
I know much more yet still not all,
One last thing I need to learn,
Before I rest within my urn,
is how to let my kids all know,
How much I've always loved them so.

About this poem

This poem is from the depths of my soul as I reflect back on my life and realize I can never go back and do it differently. I made mistakes but I always fought for my kids and through it all, they fail to realize that I've always loved them. They have disowned me, but I still love them.
