The Journey

The journey
The train picks me up at the station
And steams full ahead on the journey I’ll travel
The seats are mostly all vacant
As I sit back and wait for  life to unravel
My parents sit close  and give comfort
As we enter tunnels, turning day into night
Then they disembark from their journey
Left alone ’cept the warmth of their love and their light
The train often stops, more people board
My family, loved ones, my children, my friends
The seats ebb and flow with people I know
Some journey’s starting, whilst some journeys end
All on this train will alight at some time
It’s important we all make the most of our ride
For me, it’s been a wonderful  voyage
Thanks to my family and friends by my side
The train’s now arrived at my station
On the platform I watch it pull slowly away
I glance through the windows at those I have loved
Blurred faces of those who I’ll miss every day.
I thank you for sharing my journey
The good times, the bad times, the dark and the light
And although I have left, don’t feel bereft.
I’m still with you, I’m just out of sight
