Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

You're a wolf in sheep's clothing awaiting it's prey.
The hatred within you should fill you with shame.

Trolling the socials, thinking you speak the truth.
Yet truth lies in the middle between me and you.

What's wrong with the world? Are we losing our sight?
"Right" is now wrong and "Wrong" has become right.

You scream your opinions if we disagree.
You're spewing such hate and failing to spread peace.

If we could just work together we might see the truth.
Honesty shouldn't be brutal to be valid and true.

We might disagree, views may misalign.
Converging our differences is what makes humankind.

About this poem

As I sit scrolling through social media posts, I feel the pain of a double edge sword. Sharing opinions and ideas was once an invitation for intellectual discussions and kind responses. I now witness on a daily basis the dramatic shift and the lack of civility and harsh remarks are now the norm. This is my inspiration behind “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.”

Betsy Wokersien Stephens

Betsy spent her career working as a hairdresser. Now retired, she draws many of her writing inspirations from the years sharing life stories with her clients while they sat in the chair of her salon. Through each event celebrated, tragic event mourned, and secrets divulged, she gained an awareness of the much larger picture that exists outside her own perceptions and life experiences. more…
