the sad truth

death is a common fear
it keeps us
awake
and alert
for what is about to come to an end.

the grinding scream of Death
forever rings in our ears,
as the darkness sings to us
from underneath the earth.

the ignominy of death
plagues some of the greats;
those who don’t realize
it was them alone who
challenged Death’s power
time and time again.

some believe the more we sin,
the closer Death is waiting
with their arms open
in acceptance.

but the reality of the matter is
we are all on the edge of the bridge of death,
no one nearer or farther,
just waiting for a push of unexpectancy to
make us fall.

society often pushes us over too soon,
with its
insults,
discouragement,
and lies.
society can be beautiful though,
as it illuminates a path of possibility;
one with the comfort of love,
although most love will die.

life right now is a gift,
but our world has been telling us that for a while now.
so let us not accept the societal sins,
and let them kill us without a shadow of doubt.
let society do what it should;
grant us light for the path we are yet to take.

i call to you society,
help us win the war of life.
bless the new generation,
and give us triumph
now.

About this poem

This poem is about how death awaits as all, but how we use this truth to value the moment we are in right now. This poem is also about a call to society to stop ruining people's perception of what life is meant to be.
