Sweet Silence
Sweet Silence
I needed you like the stars need the sky, a close soul, a sanctuary to shine.
All the nights of sleep lost were only worth it in your presence.
Otherwise, eye bags and coffee gave me a sense of regret.
I’ll never regret keeping my eyes open for you in the darkest hours.
When we’d laugh and smile and only feel bliss until our lids became so heavy we could barely utter “I love you,” before we drifted off.
And we’d sit in our silence, taking in the feeling of ecstasy.
All of the “I love you”s dripped in my mind every moment I was conscious, and even more in my dreams.
It wasn’t until we stopped exchanging the phrase that it fell dark.
I’d spend my nights with your soul, my evenings with your voice, and the mornings with your promise.
Now when I wake and pry myself out of sorrow, I sit with the heartache and betrayal you never meant to leave but did.
My evenings filled with silent storms, my nights no longer calm and warm.
A bitter cold now chills my bones, and every piece within.
Trying hard to feel real, rather than the ghost walking around the town.
And the waves come and go, mostly choosing to come in the darkest parts of the night.
They come just like a hurricane, washing everything away, leaving only destruction and turmoil.
And they drown the bliss and wash up my sore soul.
Sore from all the leaps and twists and hoops I've jumped through with you, for you.
I’d invested all of my passion and energy into a race I knew I would never win, never cross the finish line.
Those peaceful and playful moments have fled away.
The only silence I have now is not-so-sweet.
I miss your silence.
