Nothing Good Can Stay

Kristyn Standon 1990 (San Bernardino)

A shadow is all that’s left of you,
You took my love and trust too.
When I think back on how it used to be
How in the hell could you ever see.
I have all pain, and no trust
Because of you, I’ve learned I must
You are a driven spear through my heart
Thanks to you, us kids and you remain apart.
I don’t want to hear what you have to say,
Nothing good can stay.

About this poem

I think about being taken to Foster care and pulled apart from my brothers and family. It was a rough childhood, but only the strong remain.
