Birthday Sonnet

I played games I invented as a young child;
I entertained myself alone, quiet and mild.
As a student I excelled until homework took hold.
I had no interest in spending time, a grade was not gold.

In my middle years, I married, a family I raised.
Each child I coddled, shared my love, and praised.
Unfortunately, marriage to their mom did not last:
My three children are grown, being their dad is a blast.

Today, I celebrate the beginning of my eighth decade on earth.
Presently, I am a "papa", to one grandchild, a majestic birth.
In these final years ahead, I feel life is great;
I married Jenny, good karma has decided who I am, determined my fate.
