Stand

Yesterday,

I watched a young black girl pick herself up from the asphalt, an assault from a peer.

The bloodied knee and cut ego cried remorse.

She loses? She wins?

She stands, and carries on like a queen. No recriminations. Stoic poise.

How my heart soared!
How me eyes welled!

And the light of Lord's grace illumined the raw courage in her visage.
Against the odds.
Against the blood and the fail.

And what am I but witness to this?

Strive! Strive young girl!
Oppose the frictions of this life!

Pick youself up
Forever and strive,
And I will forever bear witness.

For compared to you, what more am I but this?
