The storm

Our trip began on a beautiful day
Flowers were all abloom
The sky was blue
The sea was calm
Beauty lay all around.

But much too quickly
The skies turned gray
The wind became a savage beast
It ripped at our very souls

The flowers have all died
The beast has been tamed.

Now all that is left
Is a reminder
Quickly turning to hate.

Can we set this all aside
Or has too much been destroyed.

Perhaps we can chart a different course
Go in another direction
One that is much more calm

Can’t we talk sensibly
Not emotionally
and end this gnawing forever.

Or is it too late
To try and forgive
And forget.
