Aftermath
Brady Bowen 1973 (Louisiana)
lying awake in the wreckage of the day
smoking ruins rubble-spread in the streets of my heart
exhausted with my running for cover
weeping for the blood spilled
the word-weapons fired at the soul
the nuclear misspeaks making mushrooms
over the cities of her affection
vaporized is her loving
radical radiation burning my bones
to incandescence; flash-frying our connection in a nanosecond of rage
when all are lying in heaps of ash
there is no memory of who struck first.
