Happiness

Words, yours and mine
Truths, aspirations, and pictures
What I am, simplified, reduced
To fit colourful visions of glory
Otherwise it’s back to the cycle,
a never ending battle

Why is this pursuit of success
Sounding less and less
Every moment eating into my soul
Everyone every time, so painfully cold
In the name of progress,
Oh such a mess

There is only this race
The worst in all, for pride the case
Good better best, standards of grace
How is it alright for papers, skill and such matters
Be the yardstick for normal and cool,
Utter bull

Too many beasts of burden
Families and friends, tumble and turned
Yesterday used to be just about love
About kindness, and chances
But today, mansions of hate and jealousy
Burning bridges and towers of ivory

Happiness left a long time ago
What’s left is just empty smiles
Crushed dreams and a barren wasteland
And possibly a glimmer of hope
To return to sincerity and simplicity
Back to life without the measure of insanity
