Pot Of Gold

Cecilia Crasto 1947 (Sydney)

I looked above and saw a rainbow
splashed across the sky;
silvery wisps of cloud scurried away
leaving the world clean and sparkling
Picture Perfect!

I went in search of the pot of gold
looked in fallow fields
where children netted butterflies;
followed the badgers as they burrowed
deeply, and the dogs digging for truffles,
beneath the Autumn leaves
lying in mounds of magenta and gold.

I came upon it where sky meets earth
a pot of burnished gold;
eagerly I prised open the lid
empty and engraved therein
tou ce qui brille n'est pas d'or
All that shines is not Gold!
