Pure Joy

In the ancient woods I saw
A woman sat amongst the nettles.
Her skin was bare,
Mottled in crimson spots,
Yet she sang a siren's song:
"Consider it pure joy my sisters,
Pure joy,
Pure joy.
For the trials we face produce perseverance."

And so she sang amongst the nettles.

About this poem

There is a silent strength that is carried by every woman. This poem speaks on the trials that women go through - the voice observes a woman in an uncomfortable setting, the crimson spots symbolic of her pain. The song she sings is in reference to the biblical passage James chapter 1 vs 2-3 where the message is of perseverance through trials. The woman leaves out the word "brothers" as a claim to the idea of feminist ideals- the pursuit of equity in society.
