Captive

I am tethered to the iron bars of a small window in a vacant equine stable.
The window is outlined by cobwebs with spiders nesting inside.
There are no animal sounds.
No cars swish by.
I pull and twist in attempt to sever the rope.
Instead, it tightens.
My wrists and fingertips tingle.
The evening sun blinds me, and my eyes water.
All I can see from below the window are glowing leaves on tall trees.
I know that I am nowhere within earshot of neighbors. I’m alone here.
