Candle

Max Miller 2009 (Virginia)

Somewhere
in the dark,
sits a candle
burning brightly,
wanting to make something of itself.
Trembling candle,
so delicate,
but so dangerous.
Warm candle,
so beautiful,
but so deadly.
Oh forgotten candle,
so small,
but so full of potential.
The fire reflects in my bloodshot eyes,
on my quivering hands,
on my wet cheeks.
The music grows louder
along with the roaring flames.
