Tiny Specks

Tiny specks of light
Sometimes hard to find
In the night sky -
Are they really massive stars
Reduced to the size of dots...
By intervening distance?

The books say, distances exist
That measure in light years;
And stars bigger than the sun
Are close to nothingness
Being placed there.

One would think
All things on earth
Would appear small
The farther they are
From us
And one could not see or feel them
All the way afar.

Then why is it, my love
That you and need of you
Tugs at my very being
Harder and harder
The farther you go
From me?

And how is it
That all the pain
Of parting from you
Stays undiminished
Within my heart
When I thought
The very same pain
Was overflowing from my eyes
The last few hours?

The darkness of the night
And brightness of the day
The vastness of the ocean
And the expanse of the sky
Mean only one thing -
Things of beauty and might
Have eternally been present.
On Earth

And just like these,
Is love undying.
Deep enough to sink the world
Light enough to make it fly
Made of more pleasure or more pain
No one could explain
The same love, reduced to just one speck
Sits implanted in my heart.

This speck of light
Is the sparkle
In my eyes
When they rest upon the sight of you.
