A journey up Coombe hill road

From the crosswords of Africa and the middle East.

My country was giant which was separated, preyed on, and besieged

The youth had dreams but the boogyman had those descised

You can be an angel, who fell from the sky and end up being an selfish hypocritical beast

Often good men had good hearts, but they fell victim to power and greed

So Often had lush oasis's turned to deserts because some viewed national riches as personal feasts.

No matter how much they steal from my people their appetite was never appeased

The Nile said my waters flow past many mothers tears,
Why has she become widowed and when would her son be reaeased?

One day I am a recent graduate the other day I am a refugee in a foreign country

In a journey starting I after I left my home

It might have not been much but in my heart it was a throne

It's funny Because after I say I'm a refugee I notice an immediate change in their tone

Cuz they either secretly despise me or feel sorry for and I feel awkward to be around

I arrive and reliaze I'm different because of a social status no matter how good I look or how elequent I sound

Had to build life all over again from a dusty humiliating ground

Father saying son, I  used to be an ambassador back home but I wish you know that we had no other choice

Father don't worry your son says the word refugee with proudness on his voice

We climbed tripple the mountains to gain half the respect

Had to see those like me who live as second class citizens in houses unfit for even for your outside pet.

Told to go back home, and shamed about how I posed a different kind of threat

Had my eyes locked only on progress no matter the sweat on my forehead or the tears I  shed

No matter the ghetto or the 5 pounds an hour

From grangetown I was Gona light up like a meteor shower

It's a journey destined on many like me and what scars, also often empowers

A journey up CoomBe hill road but who said success is synonymous with that fake Ivory tower?

My people percivered by chewing the sweet out of the sour

May God bless the concrete which produced a flower

He deserves a standing ovation and she deserves a medal of valour

Those kept in the dark must understand and see

How it could be

Living life as a 1st generation refugee

From a so called third world country..
