the heart of the city beats with life
 the prism of lights shines the skyline
 full of potential
 get lost in the hype
 the heart of the people is the cities lifeline

 we saw it coming but looked away
 
 babies starving, stomach whole fully empty
 we fix our words but have nothing to say

 the streets polluted with crime
 
 the gorgeous landscape of the buildings
 add to the depth of the environment
 where evil lurks with weapons wielding
 and good fades away in retirement
 
 our hearts burn with no way to conceal it
 its no mystery hell has a shortage of firemen
 we fire guns emotionally, no logic to keep us tamed
 young black boy laid out slayed
 abandoned apartment blood-stained
 
 this beautiful city where nothing is plain
 where we choose to lose
 cause we overlooked what's to be gained
 we endure tragically induced pain
 all seduce by our fear to change
