Failure to Fly

When a bird jumps out of a tree, it does not expect to fall

When a bird jumps out of a tree, it can spread its wings and fly

I want to be a bird, sometimes

I want to glide through the air, wind ruffling my hair,
but I am just a hatchling

I jump out of the tree, spread my wings, and hope to fly, and I fall

I fall, and I keep falling, and I close my eyes

There will be no peaceful flight,

There will be no soft landing,

Because I am but a failure, and I am not a bird

Maybe it was the wrong tree

A tear slips out
