What Is Poetry?

What Is Poetry?

I held my thoughts awkwardly trying to write as
clearly as I could.
I thought out my theme
And put the pen to paper.

I knew what I wanted to convey
Meaning to sound wise
Wanting other people to be impressed
To wonder at my mastery of word and thought.

I put on my serious writers face
and began carefully writing the words of my poem.

As I wrote I felt a sense of manipulating the Reade
It stopped me in my tracks.
I put away the pen and just sat for a while.

Putting words onto paper
I realised that poetry writes itself as if the very Universe
is expressing itself through those who write.
A poet might Copyright Words
Yet the words belong to no one.
That is poetry fluid free and unshackled.

About this poem
