Unheard Child
I may not be perfect, I'm not supposed to be,
I cry these painfilled tears, from my eyes for all to see.
Alone, I've walked through life, struggling every single day,
I'm sorry I've made mistakes, what else is there to say.
I'm a lamb, that is cowering, in a lions den so scared,
Injustice for the innocence, stolen, that my heart has had to bare.
Yet I'm told that I am crazy, over tears I do not hide,
But, hold me close just once, to feel my pain inside.
I am my own person, there isn't anyone like me,
Please quit trying to change me, into someone you want me to be.
I will not throw away my beliefs, to adhere to what you want,
Just because I am different, doesn't mean that I am wrong.
I know we don't see eye to eye, about the morals of our lives,
But, please make a note to self, I'll stand alone to fight.
I'm tired of being on my knees, begging for your approval,
I need you more than you'll ever know, one day I'll be above all.
But, before you stand to judge me, deeply clean out your own closet,
You will not kick me when I am down, I'm my own advocate.
I will rise above all this, very soon; You'll see!
My wings have already spread open; Look God has set me free!
Please do not be afraid, for I refuse to fall,
Stop pretending that you care, cause alone I'm standing tall.
But, listen to my cry daddy, before my time is gone,
I should not have had to write to you, any poem, letter, or song.
I will see you later on, one day on the street,
But until then, " I love you very much" and "can't wait until we meet.
About this poem
I wrote this poem to my father while fighting active addiction and going thru treatment. I had always had to fight for my father's affection. I just wanted to be heard by him and for him to be by my side but I had to do it all alone.
