Symmetry

Landyn James Lewis 1991 (Massachusetts)

Paved path of greystone,
underneath a distant sky,
catching my eye,
& seeking escape,

surrounded by symmetry,
one and the same,
Life is still—

Reflection of the Summer's sun,
river's run,
drowning the World,

certain,
Time breathes,

As I roam inside my mind,
underneath: the distant sky,
Life catches my eye,
I'm seeking escape,

Shadow bird,
surrounded by symmetry,
we are one and the same,

the World is still—
Reflecting in the Summer's sun.

About this poem

I wrote this poem while sitting in Central Park across from the Frederick Douglass sculpture & I was very inspired to write something different than my normal poems (subject, POV, dynamics, structure, beat/rhythm, etc.) When I was finished, I was proud of what I was able to accomplish. I want people to see what I was experiencing that day, and I am visually impaired as well as hard of hearing. I want to show people my perception, how I see the world & the only way for me to express my view of the world seems to be through my poetry. I want people to take away peace, center, symmetry, solitude, thoughtful simplicity & a gaining of the beauty in life that is for all of us; the life that is out there, waiting.
