Lessons Learned

Mossy covered lanterns;
hot tea on a cool fall day;
she thinks to herself quietly,
everyday should start this way.
Life really comes full circle,
she's no longer a young girl.
Aging, gray hair and wrinkles;
wisdom gained from a harsh world.
She speeds off to some destination.
For a young person it would be mundane,
but there's relief for her in simple routines,
perhaps that comes with age.
She's content in the life that's she building;
no longer grieving what was lost along the trip.
Lessons were learned and taught
she thinks to herself, as she takes another sip.

About this poem

I wrote this while sitting is a small tea room one fall morning. The tea room is full of black lanterns hanging from the ceilings covered in moss. I sat thinking about life and how much I have overcome and learned along the way.
