An Angel

Poet Jean E. Gorney 1940 (Pennsylvania)

Sitting in bed, my amazement wonders
How she could still be here though my blunders
A soft voice and a smile she gives me
And I thank God for this angel from Thee
My legs in casts keep me from faring
But, “May I help you, son?” I am hearing
My casts keep action down to a trickle
Careless I've put myself in a pickle
Turning from the window and sun setting
A light turned on and dinner I’m getting
Fixed on a tray is a full balanced meal
With wishes that soon better I will feel
Her time and her patience I soon relent
Speeds the time passing, not so slowly spent
My spirits are up by her encouragement
My body strengthens with her nourishment
I feel guilty for thoughtless I have been
Before I'm spending this long time to mend
My thanks now to you, my loving Mother
Who is as glorious as none other
