Just a Girl

I'm just a girl
so they say
Only a picture-perfect, pretty prize
to give away
Just a doll, no surprise
they want to play every day

I'm just a girl
this I know
Just a killing force
strong like a tornado
Only mightier than all sorts
I can do more than cook and sew

I'm just a girl
like ones before
Amelia Earhart
and Arc's Joan
Marie Curie, who outsmarts
I sit with Lovelace and Cleo

I'm just a girl
and I won't back down
I'll talk out of turn
I refuse the corset and gown
Let your arrogance burn
I'm not perfect, ask anyone around.

We are just girls
we should be proud
Even though to be heard
we must scream twice as loud
And how the tables will turn
when they see us in our crowns

I'm just a girl
flawed as a dented gem,
shinier than beryl,
more than a body,
stronger than this,
not just your Barbie,
not your object.
