My Baby Girl

Matt Perri 1958 (Chicago)

Love unconditional,
From the moment we met,
Sad and joyful eyes,
Longing for one more pet.
Staring at the door for hours,
Knowing I'll be walking through,
Bounding to the turn of the knob,
Ecstatic, it's finally you.
A stroke of the fur,
Over to the back with a flip
A Smile from ear to ear,
As belly rub does just the trick.
Any small movement I make,
Gets perked ears and a tug
Hoping it means something special,
Like a walk, treat or just a hug.
My Baby loves me
I can see it in her eyes
I can feel it in her subtle moves,
As I rub her soft furry side.
Who would have thought that,
The best respite from a hard day,
Was petting my Baby,
As the stress rolls away.
