The Enemy

Sword in one hand, shield in the other
I stand weeping over my slain brother
My brother was my enemy in an inferno of doom
As I consider, his reinforcements will be arriving soon
Is this good versus evil as my leader preaches?
I don't recall this being what my religion teaches.
Just because his beliefs contrast mine
Does that make his faith such a heinous crime?
He believed in one true God, just as I do
His God is forgiving and compassionate as mine is too
Can it be that we both wished to see the same ominous being?
Or can it be that our ethnicities are the only thing we are really seeing.
This man I stand over, slain with my vengeful sword,
Was once a great leader of a menacing horde.
I thought I defeated him because his strength and skill failed,
But I know now it was his mercy on me that actually prevailed.
