A Tale of War
Gabriel Caputo 2001 (Ohio)
This is a tale.
A tale of a father who left for the war.
To put the flag during victory
After mindless killing.
Slaughter their daughters,
And their women for mating.
After bomb and the sick they brought,
No matter how gruesome it all got.
No matter how horrible it all looked,
They were heroes in the public’s books.
After they ripped the hope out of innocent eyes,
Kids now duck hearing planes flying by.
And here am I just telling the tale,
What good am I if not distorted.
They will lie and lie about the battles they faced,
We still say thank you as a smirk wipes their face.
