The Christmas We Want

The season is here again… and it’s no secret.
It appeals to all our senses.

We can hear children rehearsing Christmas songs for their Carol’s night play.
Boyfriends are gathering their savings and taking loans; chale e no be play.

Some are traveling here and there, seeing the family’s unfamiliar faces.
Ei! And the house next door has had two parties already, leaving my mind in vicarious places.

Search online for advice and see. Even these tik tok’s Ted talks seem to motivate with extra smiles and graces.
And bosses seem more playful. Ha! This has to be artificial epistasis.

But this ubiquitous ritual got me thinking…
If we’re celebrating the birth of Jesus, the quintessential lover, then why is the love in the world shrinking.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t enjoy our holidays. Besides, I’m an advocate of chilling and enjoyment. The motive I’m trying to push is:

Before you devour that last bit of your 3kg meat, remember a friend struggling to make ends meet
Before you spend a thousand cedis on your date, leave a hundred for the poor man’s plate
And before you get that Christmas Gucci, ensure that your neighbor too is gucci.

Simply put, be the light this season.
Show love and make someone’s burden light.
God bless you.
