The First Snowflake of Christmas

The first snowflake of Christmas blew before the storm,
his mission smother all the earth prevent it being warm.
As chief of the advance guard snowflake knew the drill,
being heat seeker always gave him such a thrill.
He wore frosty armour each time that he patrolled
braving all the icy blasts, the North wind moaned were cold.

With steely bravado, snowflake knew no fear,
he had the mother of all storms covering his rear.
Snowflake gave the signal for his troops to spiral round,
Barking out the order that would plunge them all earthbound.
But at the height of their descent a strange sound broke the spell
not their thunderous battle cry but the ringing of a bell.

Falling from formation the troops began to lose their nerve,
the flakes were all a pother, they began to dive and swerve.
A demon light was glowing disrupting the battle fray,
followed by eight reindeer pulling a sleigh.
The driver was a fat man whose coat was scarlet red,
“Please, General Snowflake, help Rudolph guide my sled.”

I’m on a tight schedule, I need to borrow your task force,
I must recover my direction, I’ve been blown way off course.
I’m in a desperate hurry,” said Santa with a frown,
and I’ve to deliver all these presents to the boys and girls in town.
It’s getting rather late now, time is getting short,
I’ve half the world to go to, I really can’t abort.”

Snowflake did a double-take, he stood in awe and wonder
after drilling up a muster, his troop soon knuckled under,
“that chilly wind’s our cover, I want you to jump in
Christmas is in jeopardy, Santa needs your best tail spin.”
So, driving all the reindeer, the blizzard at their back,
Snowflake bulldozed Santa and pushed him back on track.

Snowflake’s Winter vanguard escorted Santa round the world,
North, East, South and West methodically they swirled
delivering all the presents before the reawakening Dawn
declared the break of day to be the chilly Christmas morn.
As the sun lit the horizon, Santa’s task was now complete
beneath every Christmas tree were present’s wrapped up neat.

As children opened sleepy eyes to see their stockings filled;
each house thronged with laughter as their excitement over – spilled;
Snowflake lingered close by when he heard them having fun
He didn’t notice it getting warmer as he stood out in the sun,
Snowflake’s heart just melted when he saw the children play
they were hailing him a hero for saving Christmas Day.
