Trauma

You’re alive in my dreams, those of night and of day.
If I listen too hard, you will not go away.
You’re alive in my soul; in the choices I make.
When I listen to learn, I just learn that you take.

Like a knot in the bark of a sycamore tree.
Like the rot in the roots, you alone plainly see.
Ne'er a bird pressing down on my limbs is aware.
Nor the Little Bo-Peep in her lost-herd-despair.

When we carry the world, then we too will rotate.
Our oceans will rise up with fear and with hate.
Our words, they will sink to the bottom and drown.
Our memories - litter - float sorely around.

A curious gull, he might cast one ashore.
A shock in the shadows that line ‘round my core.
Hello again, nightmares, welcome to me.
Hello again, trauma, together, we’re ‘we’.
