A Lost Friend

Brian Thames 1989 (Mississippi)

You were a selfless boy
Full of  joy

Trapped in a world of pain
From all the bullying that he gained

Nigel Shelby was his name
He treated everyone exactly the same

He was such a happy young lad
But deep down he felt kind of sad

It’s so wrong how they treated you at school
That was so not cool

Bullied and teased for being gay
You know what I say

You were so young
Though they treated you so wrong

It makes me want to sing a song

Only fifteen years old
With a heart of gold

I can imagine how you felt
Like you wanted to melt

He killed himself on Thursday night
One shot and the lights out

Why did you have to go
I bet your mother misses you so

Your mother must be hurting without her poor baby
Even though she’s a lady

I’m sure that the angels will help  her through this time
Just as long as you don’t stand in line

You loved and cared  for everyone just like me
Though they wouldn’t let it be

You’re in a safe place now
Though you’ll never come down

You’re  life was just like mine
Though I’m just fine

We’ve both suffered the same fate
So I know how it was mate

You had a great heart just like me
Now I’m going to let it be

Even though I didn’t know you
I feel really sad about how they treated you

Rest In Peace young Lad
Though I’m sure a lot of people are very sad

You’ll be truly missed
At least you gave your mom one last goodbye kiss
