their journey

It being a test of
my strength
my endurance
my capacity for pain
is well known

But little is mentioned of
their strength
their endurance
their capacity for pain

For they may not have been sick
with what plagued me
but they did have me
my eating
my complaining
my crying
my suffering
my obsession
my needs
my wants
my hopes
my dreams
my failures

And in the end
i only wish i knew
that they had me.

About this poem

about all the people so often forgotten in the journey of an eating disorder. i am far from over with recovery, it’s yet to even start, but they have already gone through so much. i wish i’d let myself accept that they have me.
