the stranger you used to be

I don’t remember the digits to your number
Or how you laughed
Or what you sounded like while you fall asleep
I don’t remember the good times or what made you happy
Your favorite food or what you thought looked good on me
All I know now is a faded memory of what
You did
To me
It’s been years and I am finally new and clean
I hate that you're present in the back of my mind
I hate that I know your name
I hate what you took from me
I wish it was anyone else
A stranger in the dark that night
When you pretended not to hear me
Maybe I’d be able to live with myself
If it wasn’t you
If I didn’t know you, like the stranger you are now to me
I saw your mom there on the boardwalk
She asked me about my family
Told me about your new job, and your new girl
And my heart dropped to my feet
Now I worry more and more about what you do
What you do to her
I want to warn her of what’s coming
The stranger she may meet soon
That lives inside of you
I wanna tell her "run"
I wanna tell her "run"
I wanna tell her "run"
