Stage Crew
The sound of screws clicking near
The best sound I’ll ever hear
The crinkle of that tarp
Unfolding in a beautiful arc
Pop the cap
Right of the bat
We start making the detailed map
Brush is swiping
Oh, No!
Let’s start wiping
The grind of a saw
As we all watch in awe
Show nights here
Now let’s clear
This all up
You might be confused and that’s ok
What I say next, we’ll it might just be the best
Now here’s the story
Of MB’s glory
We weren’t told when to be bold
To run out in front of the crowd
To do our bows
We had never been asked to bow before
So we were all so excited
But keep in mind we were never invited
So we had no clue
How on earth it possibly blew
It started when I was told to go
Now I didn’t want to be late
Or at least make one single mistake
So I ran out with pride and glee
But little did I know what was waiting for me
A false alarm I hear to late
And that how I made the first mistake
I run back heart racing
ASM pacing
My face red and very flustered
But don’t worry afterwords we got some custard
They whisper go go go
So I start to glow glow glow
As we go out we run the show
People clapping everywhere
Well if that didn’t give you a scare
What I say next will make you pull our your hair
Make you grip your seats in anticipation
Maybe you’ll be careful next time
That anyone starts to pull the blind
When we were up there
I joked around to share
The embarrassment that I once held
Because it finally broke it’s shell
But just before I could finish my words
MB goes to make her speech
Now after this we named a cheese curd
Stuffed animal after her speech
It was eris don’t you see
The same one who did it to me
But give her some grace
Because in the face
Of stress she just was doing her job
She shut the curtains like she was told
But she just broke the mold
Not just of being the ASM
oh no she was human that single day
We screamed at her loudly so she could hear
But sadly she never lent an ear
She never heard our cries that day
But she would in her dreams oh she may
She hit MB with those curtains hard
They hit their mark don’t you see
How MB got jarred
It was too much fun for me
Non stop laughing
As people start clapping
We break formation to help out
But luckily MB just gave a quick shout
She was saved that amazing day
Spared by eris but she may
Strike once again
She now lives down in history
As we remember when she swore she
Would tell the story
Of MB’s glory
Now that you know the full story
Ask around about MB’s glory
We made a tradition
And we went on a mission
To name a custard toy after her
Called Showstopper MB
We’ll pass it down as a tradition
A brand new addition in our stage crew family
I’ve made that and the book of autographs you see
How that eris could be me
It’s my last year just like her
I just hope that I am not a burr
In someone’s hair, to make a mistake
Oh but that could be my fate
Each year someone will be picked and deemed worthy
To guard the book it will be kept in Sadie’s nook
Every show we will write
Sign your name and join the fight
Everyone wants the book
Shall I give it to a 7th grader
Or should I give it to a 6th grader
To learn the ways of stage crew
Well we’ll find out just one day
And that’s when I’ll finally say
Anna that’s you before the show
Or maybe it’s Kate or Kaitlyn or Sadie
Or maybe a few more
I just have to settle score
If people misbehave
Then they will have to give chase
I won’t let them have the book
They’ll have to take it as a crook
As for showstopper MB
we will vote and you will see
Who deserves the biggest prize
The biggest honor
And that’s the story
Of MB’s glory
About this poem
It’s about a stage crew experience that happened to me last year during a play my school did called radium girls. (Great Play, and movie too!)
