A Continuum

It is in the so-called middle of ones life...
that the realization comes...
perhaps with novice hindsight...
that you are not the first.

Which means,
after sober contemplation,
that you are not the last.

Words steady us when it is our turn,
and console us during the denouement.

Entering in knowing this,
makes one aware once more...
of the whimsical fragility of the human heart...
and the beauty behind a twist of fate.
